When it comes
to propellers we associate ourselves with only the very best. Hartzell
and McCauley Propeller Systems have a track record of delivering
the same high standards that we maintain in our own products. BDS
has always been on the front line as propeller designers bring forward
the latest and greatest. We feel Hartzell's new scimitar design
will follow in this tradition. In fact, so much so that we hold
the only approved STC on this propeller.
Hartzell's
Top Prop line has strong benefits in improved ground clearance
and rate of climb, reduced noise and takeoff distance, longer overhaul
intervals, a new propeller warranty, and increased safety and improved
appearance. When converting from a two-blade propeller to a three-blade,
takeoff and climb are generally improved while cruise speeds remain
about the same. Two-blade to two-blade conversions are generally
made to replace obsolete propellers, and performance would be unchanged
across the flight envelope. A new generation of scimitar blade designs
will deliver the best performance and lowest noise levels available.
New spinner
assemblies are included in all Top Prop kits. The spinners are constructed
of aluminum alloy, which is polished to a mirror finish. Generally
the governors do not have to be replaced, however there are some
installations such as early Cessna 180, 182 and Beech Bonanza models
which do require a governor change. If a governor change is required,
the proper governors will be listed on the STC documents.
Availability
for Hartzell's Top Prop is always very good. The Top Prop line also
currently covers over 120 different types of aircraft
TBO:
For propellers installed on piston aircraft it is 6 years or 2,400
flight hours, which ever comes first. The only exceptions are agricultural
aircraft, which have a 3-year/2,000 hour TBO due to the corrosive
chemicals used with these aircraft.
Warranty:
Top Prop propellers and spinners are warranted against defects in
materials and workmanship for 1,000 hours or 3 years, which ever
comes first. They also offer a 10 flight hour / 90 day full refund
period if you are dissatisfied with the installation of the propeller
on your aircraft.

McCauley's
BlackMac line of propellers made its debut in 1989. A great
design with innovative advancements in solid one-piece hubs, and
internal steel split ring blade retention systems. A few improvements
to look forward to depending on application are shorter take-off
and landing distances in addition to a better climb. You will find
significant noise reductions when installing three blade propellers
vs. two blade propellers and when installing four blade propellers
vs. three blade propellers. Oil filled hubs for piston aircraft
are available which provide constant lubrication and corrosion protection.
A design derived from McCauley's turbine propeller line. This system
enjoys over twenty years of A/D free service excellence. No annual
servicing is required beyond normal propeller care.
TBO:
Piston applications are up to 2400 hours or 72 calendar months (whichever
occurs first).
Warranty:
Standard three year warranty on McCauley owned STC kits extended
to include McCauley supplied replacement parts for components found
unserviceable due to manufacturing defects at first recommended
overhaul.
